The Ballad of Jess & Crowley
We met on “The Dead” tour, June 17, 2003 in Virginia Beach. Crowley asked for a ride to the next show. Taking a chance, Jess said ok. Little did we know the coincidences and enlightenment to follow?
To support her adventures, Jess had some handmade bags and crochet hats to sell. Crowley had 100 lbs. of rocks and minerals. Along the way we picked up handmade items from our friends to add to our store. This was how Crowley’s Corner was born.
After crisscrossing the country 3 times that summer, we settled in Truckee, CA & worked through the winter; Jess at Donner Truckee Veterinary Hospital and Kennel, and Crowley as lift operator and later at Sunny’s Custom Cabinets. For them we are very grateful! All winter long we worked to create our one-of-kind items and expand our ideas and inventory. Each summer we would set out for a new adventure.
In 2008 Crowley was laid off from his custom cabinet making job. Undaunted, we took this as a sign. Moving to Reno, to lower our expenses, we put 100 percent of our effort into Crowley’s Corner. We expanded our inventory to include more of our own hand-made creations, and began setting up shop at more festivals.
After years of driving across the country on route 80 we decided to move east. In 2010 we found an awesome place in South Carolina to call home. Now we can easily travel up and down the east coast for festivals and fly west for materials when we need it.
We enjoy living in the south where we can do farmers markets all winter, while we restock and upgrade our inventory. Thank you to Soda City and Rosewood Market for giving us these outlets! We are grateful for our customers’ requests and input to help us grow and improve.
Thanks for listening to our story hope to see you down the road!
